King Diamond: House of god

27/02/04  ||  Statik Majik

This is definatelly one of the best King Diamond albums ever. Yeah, fuck you too, I know that “Abigail” or “Them” or even “Conspiracy” are considered to be “the” unholy trinity of KD albums. I don´t care. They´re good, I´m not denying that. But again this written nonsense here is MY opinion. Let me say that one more time: my opinion. And if ya happen to care what I consider to be the best three KD albums, here you go: “The Puppet Master”, “House of God” and “The Eye”. Hell, I should write a fucking review from “The Eye” too. Wouldn´t be the first time I review an album that was released more than 10 years ago.

The album starts with a pretty interesting intro which gets us in a correct mood for the story. Well, that´s the fucken meaning of intros in the first place, right? And no, I won´t tell ya what the story is about. It´s a good one, that I can tell ya.

What makes this album so good is the fact that the album holds so many damn good songs. There´s maybe one or two songs that aren´t the best possible but are needed in order to get the story told. The album has lots of slow and/or beautiful parts, even more catchier and faster parts. No, not Dark Funeral fast if that´s what you think. Kings performance vocalwise is definatelly one of the best he´s ever done if you ask me. And production in this album is damn good too. Just compare it to “Abigail” or “Them” and you´ll notice the difference.

Absolutely the best song from this album is “Help!!!” Killer basic riff throughout the whole song. And isn´t exactly the kind of song you´d think King Diamond would make. To me it feels like King saved all the best tracks for the end of this album. “Help”, “Catacomb” and “This place is terrible” are the strongest performances in this album.

Rating? Fuck if I care. Let´s say 8. Yeah, that´s as good rating as any.

8 /10
